CINE 2010 MANIFESTO

Today is the first day of a new decade. I woke up with a hangover and the clearest thoughts in months. At that moment, it made complete sense to discard the film I've been working on so meticulously for the past year. With this new freedom I wrote the principles to prolong cinema's mobility, authenticity and originality.

1. don't be a slave to your fiction
2. live passionately, love hopelessly
3. discard the 3 act structure
4. avoid all library & catalog music
5. use natural lighting only, make unnatural colors only
6. you are the camera movement, no tripods, no dollies
7. people will play themselves in real life
8. be a spy, observer, voyeur of your subjects
9. shoot features in weeks, think fast, don't sleep
10. travel far by foot or car, discover the spaces between places

i've spent years in this place, longing to gravitate upwards. its only now that i start to see the sky on the ground.

can i walk you to the train station where we'll wait for our separate trains and leave this place alone once again?

Photobucket

a girl in her dream wanders aimlessly with a tambourine in hand.
reluctantly waiting for the end when morning makes her tambourine
nonexistent.

light memory #3

there was this album that we used to listen to. it was an import and i forgot the name. sometimes i get the songs stuck in my head and i remember the heart shaped lamp on her wall next to her photos from home

i fell asleep on the bus. when i woke up, i watched tiny glimpses of the ocean and the sunset between passing buildings.

dream log

this is the 4th or 5th false awakening and again i'm in my house and my physical intention is to go to the bathroom but i already know i'm dreaming. i want to fly and my first two attempts at it fail. i fall on the floor both times. this time i manage to do a back flip off a wall. i try more complex things like jumping between walls to gain upwards momentum, like mega man. seeing how that's possible i start to running on walls. soon i don't even have to land on the floor to launch anymore. i run around my house on its walls and fly between them. my mom's in her room and i show her what i can do and she tells me its wonderful in a way that sounds like i'm sharing something ordinary with her. i bounce off the ceiling and bounce off the bed and bounce off the ceiling and bounce off the bed and run around the house more.

in my dream, the thought of imagining infinite possibilities is a blinding light and i wake up.

cyberpunk

today i found a freeware application that can potentially change your state of consciousness. its called SBaGen and what it does it generate slightly different sine wave frequencies entering each side of your headphones. the effect is called a binaural beat and its like a droning pulse in your head. supposedly your brain will sync to the binaural beat and the different preset drones which are customizable in SBaGen can create altered states of mind. so by experimenting with the sound and seeing the effect you can create your own experiences (psychedelic, out of body, lucid). when i first came across this it seemed like something that would be out of a hacker fiction anime but i'm hopeful that it'll work for me and give me new places to explore.

the wired

i've always believed in the theory of a universal consciousness. its like a psychic network of global information rooted in our subconscious minds. for example: waking up 2 seconds before someone enters you room or getting an incoming call from the person who's number you were going to dial. my favorite is a dream i had when i was around 7. it was of a high rise apartment building in emeryville and me walking along a shoreline close by. i've never been to this place at that point in my life. one day, while sitting in a car we passed the building and that was the first time i saw it in real life but i knew the place and i remembered the dream so the connection i have with that place is always in my memory.

recently i've been reading about the internet and how everyone communicating globally increases the universal consciousness. some speculate that the next step of evolution will be an awakening of the universal consciousness and we'll all communicate globally at a psychic level.

i remember last nights dream whenever i'm falling asleep. the weirdest thoughts go through my mind. things that don't make any sense like a memory glitch combining a thought with a color and a sound. whenever i lay down at night and after some 15 or so minutes go by it happens every time. i can anticipate it like a the initial first wave of a drug and its really not that different from mushrooms. whenever i write things down they come out as a stream of chaotic consciousness that somehow make sense at the moment. not only does it make sense but the mushrooms make you feel like it is the truth. that state of mind between awake and asleep is just like that too except it doesn't last that long before i get fully submersed into the dream world.

dream music

have you ever had a dream with music before, like in the background or live and the music that is playing is something you've never heard before. i had a dream last night with a lovely song playing in the background when i was sad. when i woke up i had to think about whether the song exists in real life and it doesn't. its so weird how the unconscious/subconscious mind can instantly create things like music or art just to go along with the dream. the cool thing is that i still remember the melody of the song and the lyrics to the hook and one word in a verse and even though in my minds dimension some other band made this song. in this world, i can make that song and i already know its good cause i heard it already.

light memory #2

every memory before i was 5 feels like a dream.

erkie was a our neighbor from across the street. she's a little bit older and taller than i am. what i remember most is that she was really nice to me and left me with a good impression of her. i wonder how she's doing. last i've heard about her my grandma told me she got in an accident in a carnival ride and she broke a leg or something.

today

a plane is ascending into the sky. the clouds are sparse, the sky is green, the white is brown.

the most depressing view of the city is the one behind me.

light memory #1

when i was in nursery school i would take the bus to and from school. one day the bus driver was driving awfully close to some trees and the branches would brush up against the side. i happened to be sitting by a window that day. the window was open letting leaves into the bus. i felt really curious and i wanted to touch the leaves while the bus was moving. i stood on the seat so my head is level to the opening, i stuck my arm out the window and touched the leaves at arms length. i didn't really get a kick out of doing that; it felt like tiny bats flying through my fingers, i just like the memory for what it is.

long lost dream #2

this is the earliest dream that i could remember: i am in the first house that i've ever lived in. it's night time and sleeping next to me is my mom. i head a loud commotion in the backyard so i peep through the window. there is a spaceship there. the craft is covered with aluminum foil and wrapped around it are christmas lights. the lights are different colors and blink in a constant succession. the dream cuts to a view from outer space of a strange looking globe. it's earth but in weird colors like yellow/orange/red and has a coral like texture. the globe has all sorts of children holding hands until they complete a circle around the circumference of the earth. they sing their song into outer space and their voices carry a long reverb and a space echo.
